The Many Reasons Granite Countertops are so Popular
by mehmet on Jan 27, 2016
You might be wondering what the hype is all about when it comes to granite kitchen counters. Many ill-informed people think they are just an expensive whim wealthy people indulge in to make their kitchen look prettier or fancier. And while granite counters do give any kitchen an air of class, they have much more to offer than just great looks.
Let’s explore just what it is that makes granite countertops so popular, and why they’re not exclusively accessible to the very rich.
First of all, let’s put the myth to rest: granite countertops, in the grand scheme of things, aren’t that expensive. When you consider that they might be the last counters you ever have to install for the rest of your (or your home’s) life, they make for a great investment. Their durability is well-established, so what extra money you invest in granite counters will be saved down the line. Additionally, granite kitchen counters will increase the value of your home considerably. If you ever decide to sell your home, you can expect to get a lot more out of it than you would have you chosen a different, cheaper material like, say, laminate (which by the time you sell might serve to decrease your home’s value because of visible wear and tear).
Now that we’ve got expenses out of the way, let’s look at what granite countertops do besides look pretty.
First, as mentioned above, they are pretty much indestructible. They are not easy to scratch, crack or otherwise damage. Unless you’re careless or trying to damage them on purpose, they will last a long, long time. What is more, granite counters can take the heat! Forget burnt marks – granite countertops are so cool you could sit a hot cast iron skillet still sizzling right on top of them and never leave a mark.
Secondly, they are perhaps the most sanitary countertops you can find. Bacteria won’t stick to granite countertops, and they are extremely easy to clean. Water and a mild detergent are all you’ll need to keep your granite counters clean, lustrous and sparkling. Who wants to spend hours scrubbing the counters after spending hours cooking the perfect meal?
Each granite slab is unique and will give your kitchen a natural look that can never be replicated anywhere else. Granite comes in a variety of hues and patterns, so you’ll be sure to find just the right color and swirl to fit your existing décor and accessories. There is a granite slab for everyone out there!
Now that you know all that granite countertops have to offer, you are better prepared to decide if granite is the right material for your kitchen. Remember: it’s an investment that keeps on giving, and granite counters will never depreciate. If anything, they’ll just keep getting more popular as more people realize that they are the best choice to make their kitchen one-of-a-kind.
