5 Ways to Determine if Your Garage Door Needs Repair

by Rohit on May 9, 2018

There are so many things around the house that we hardly worry about and assume that they don’t really need to be repaired and are working fine. There are subtleties in everyday life that we fail to notice on a daily basis. Sounds poetic? Well, we were just talking about garage doors for now. We don’t really pay much attention to it, but there are so many circumstances that can cause damage to a garage door and requires professional repair. Here is a list of few ways to determine if your garage door is in need of a repair or not.

  1. Sudden Closure of Doors

Your garage doors are heavy and that is no surprise. However, the mechanism is meant to withstand the weight of the door and keep it in its place whether it is completely open or partially. If you notice unwanted door closures, that is your garage door suddenly closing out of turn or not being able to bear its weight when partially open, it might be the time for a repair. This can get really dangerous. If the garage door unnoticeably shuts at the wrong time, it can cause serious physical damage to the human body and your beloved pets.

  1. Door Opener Issues

The door opener of the garage is one such element of the system which might need repairs more than once in a lifetime and is important to look after. There are various things that when noticed should be checked and inspected by a professional to avoid any casualties. This could include no response to door opener, or inconsistency in the door opening, which might require you to press the button a couple of times before it responds or a delay in the door opening. All of these are signs that it is time for repair and you should heed some attention to it.

  1. Abnormality in Door Motion

Garage doors have sensors that detect any object while the garage door is being closed or opened and acts precisely by stopping the motion of the door. These sensors are deployed to prevent potential injuries that might be caused due to accidental intrusions. Old doors can get problematic and sensors can sometimes send wrong signals to the actuators. There also could also be excess vibration in the door motion which might occur due to a broken part of the lifting system or the door motor. The costs of a door motor can be checked out here.

  1. Misalignment of The Track

Though mot garage doors move swiftly along their track, you shouldn’t neglect any track-related problem no matter how small it is. Dirt in the garage track can often cause some intrusion but can be diagnosed yourself. Apart from this, misalignment of the door from the tracks is quite common and can be noticeable. Often you can hear grinding sound or the door sticking at a place which are clear signs of misalignment and can be repaired by professionals. Never try to attempt to repair it yourself as you might get serious injuries in the process.

  1. Loud Door Noise

Most of us when faced with this problem, don’t even consider it a problem and think it’s just due to old age. Different types of sounds it makes can be attributed to different problems in the garage. For example, screeching or grinding sounds can be due to the rubbing of the door along the wall or the shaft due to misalignment or a whirring sound usually indicate opener issues. These problems only become worse if not repaired and any delay should be avoided in such cases.

These were a few coon problems that need to be kept in mind regarding a garage door repairs. All of these issues are directly related to the safety of people present near it and hence, shouldn’t be compromised over anything. Moreover, quick repairs will decrease the possibility of excess damage to the garage door and ensure that it need not be replaced, thus saving some extra bucks there.
