Steps to Take When Planning a Makeover on the Exterior of Your House
by Brenda Vollman on Jun 21, 2021
When you are planning on remodeling and making over the exterior of your home, there are a lot of things that you need to consider, and steps that you will need to take. You will need to make sure that you have a vision in mind, have the funds to make your vision come true, and much more. You will also need to think about if you want other things to be a part of the makeover when it is happening. Here are a few things to help you break down the process of planning a home makeover.
Have an idea of what you want your home to look like when the makeover is done
When you are planning a makeover, you want to make sure that you have a vivid idea of what you want your home to look like when it is over. If you plan a makeover without having a vision or a plan, you will end up with a house that looks like a mess. You need to make sure that you have considered all of the things that you are going to renovate and replace, what colors and materials you want to use, and many other things. Don't start this makeover process until you have the complete vision in your head.
Do you want to replace the roof or fix it up?
When you plan a home makeover, the roof is one of the first things that you need to consider. While you are probably satisfied with the state of your roof, it is a lot easier to replace or fix the roof when you are already doing a makeover on the exterior of the home. If you wait to fix up or replace the roof, then you will have to pay extra money that you weren't prepared to pay, later down the line. You can find a great roofing company if you know where to look. You can ask around and look online. You will surely find a great deal for a new roof that you won't be able to refuse, even if you weren't planning on getting one at first.
Do you want a walkway? What kind of walkway would you like?
Your home exterior makeover is going to be digging up grass and dirt in your lawn anyway, even if that is not the focus. It is very likely to happen because of all of the machinery and vehicles that drive through your lawn to get to your home. You might want to consider adding in a walkway when that is all finished. It can give your home a more classy and modern look. And you can line your walkway with solar-powered lights when it is finished.
How about a newly paved driveway
If you are thinking about putting in a walkway, you should think about redoing the driveway. While it isn't as important for you to have a fancy driveway to your home, it is nice to have something so smooth that you feel comfortable driving your car on. You won't have to worry about driving over glass or nails when you have a newly paved driveway because you will be able to see what is on your driveway now that it is paved. You can also use a driveway as an excuse to add in a basketball goal for the kids, or yourself.
Do you want to have bushes or a flower garden?
Now is a great time to think about what kind of plants you want to line your home with. You can easily install flower beds or bushes to the front and sides of your home, and they can all grow together nicely. While it isn't necessarily something that you have to have, a lot of homes don't have flower beds or bushes out front, it is something that you should consider since you are putting in all of the work to redo the outside of your home.
Are you ready for a new coat of paint on the outside of your home?
No matter what kind of material your home is built with, there is always room for a new paint coat. You can redo the paint that is already on your home, pressure wash away all of the dirt and grim on the brick of your home, or you can paint your home a brand new color altogether. There really is no limit to what color you can paint your home, as long as you don't live in an HOA neighborhood. Look through a few different coloring and cleaning options for your home itself. You will be surprised at how different your home can look with just a change of paint color. Just make sure that you contact a roofing company beforehand. You don't want to paint your home a color that will clash with the color of the roof.
Will the weather in your area ruin anything you want to add?
Before you consider adding in a flowerbed, a set of bushes, a paved or gravel walk or driveway, or even changing the roof material or paint. You want to make sure that the weather in your area is going to be easy to deal with for the next few weeks. You don't want to start a big experiment only to have the rain wash away all of your progress.
Estimate the cost of everything you want
Once you know what you want to do with your home, you want to make sure that you have the funds to afford everything that you want. A good roofing company won't take away all of your money, but the paint on the house might be a bit expensive. You will need to work out the costs and see what exactly you can afford to makeover now, and what will need to wait until later. If you are okay with altering a few of your plans, you can likely find the right companies that will do everything that you want and land right in the middle of your budget. But for the best quality, you definitely want to start saving some money.
