Stepwise Plan to Repair Your Old Home
by Guest on Feb 26, 2013
The living room is the place of a house where the guests enter first and have an impression of the house and the homeowner. Be the living room decorated in an old classical style or sleek contemporary manner, it endorses the personality and taste of the members of the house. It is the place, where the members of the family spend most of their time together, as well as guests, are welcomed here. A clumsy living room with worn-out furniture is not only a turn-off for the visitors but also distasteful for the family members living in that house. To rejuvenate your house with a complete transformation of the living room or at least update your living room furniture and try a new look for the home.
When you think of repairing your living room, select the furniture carefully so that they become a statement of your style and personality. Along with this, it is also very important to keep the versatile functionality of the living room. You have to plan meticulously so that the living room becomes a combined place for work and refreshment.
Consider the shape and size of the living room
Living rooms in different houses vary widely in shapes and sizes. This is an important point to consider as the planning should be done accordingly. The selection of furniture should follow the room size, as large furniture won’t fit in small living rooms while smaller ones might look ugly in large space.
Think about the look of the room you want
Every person has a different opinion, taste, and personality. Think about the decor of your living room you would like most. It can be an old classical look, or a royal look or just a simple contemporary look. If you are confused about what to select, contact an interior designer for an expert opinion. It is also important that the look of the living room harmonizes with the rest of the rooms in the house.
Plan your budget
Budgeting is important while planning for repairing your living room or the whole house. Never stress your pocket. List the furniture and accessories you want in your living room. Most commonly used furnishings include couches, chairs, center tables or coffee tables, storage cabinet, TV cabinet or wall units. The accessories used are mirrors, fireplaces (which are mostly electrical now a day), clocks, vases, etc. It is possible to decorate your living room in a low budget also. Do some market research for the best possible price of living room furniture.
Layout your plan
It is important to draw a floor plan on grid paper or plain paper, as it helps give the idea of how much space is occupied by the furniture and how much space is free. It is wiser to make a change in the layout than changing after you have already bought the furniture.
Actual decoration of the living room
After the repair and painting done for the living room, buy the furniture according to the list. Once the complete decoration is done, you might want some minute change or touch-ups in the room for giving it the complete look.
The current trend for living room furniture is towards the simple contemporary ones. The material preferred is either wood or wood-substitute, and metal furniture is no more in vogue. You can decorate your living room on your own or seek professional help for the delicate touches. Read more on 411's Interior Design pages.
