Considerations When Buying a Convection Microwave Oven
by Guest Post on Mar 29, 2011
If you are in the market for a new microwave oven, whether this is your first one or simply a replacement oven, you need to know about the convection microwave oven. If you have never heard of the convection microwave, they are relatively new but are becoming quite popular. As you look at the right options for you, there are a few considerations you should think about when buying a convection microwave oven.
Understanding how a convection microwave oven works and what it can do that is different from a conventional one is the first step. Convection means that hot air circulates through the use of a special fan so that food is evenly heated and can be browned in the process. Because microwaves are also used, a convection microwave is a dual-technology appliance. This allows food to be cooked quickly but also allows for baking and browning along the way. Simple reheating when using a convection microwave is more evenly accomplished without leaving the center of frozen foods cold. A convection microwave is also capable of heating foods without burning the edges because of the evenness of the circulating air.
As you think about buying a convection microwave, you will want to understand the price range you are looking at so that you can make sure that it fits into your budget. Convection microwave ovens are generally a little more expensive than conventional ones, but this is because of the difference in technology that is used and the additional features that are provided. You will find that there is quite a range of prices available.
Different methods of cooking will require different features, so if you only plan to use the convection microwave for reheating and defrosting leftovers, you may want to look at a simpler unit. However, if you love to cook in a variety of ways and your busy schedule doesn’t allow you to bake or cook as often as you would like, then a convection microwave is exactly what you are looking for. Because you can bake, broil, and brown foods beautifully with a convection microwave oven, you open yourself to a world of possibilities. The speed of the microwave combined with the versatility of convection removes limits that kept you from cooking to your heart’s content for a limited amount of time.
Size is another important consideration when buying a convection microwave oven. Determining where it needs to go may be of prime importance. If you are replacing an old over-the-range model, you will need that type of model. You will need to look at the different sizes of convection microwave ovens that are available for that type of use. If you are looking for a countertop version, you can choose from a very small convection microwave to one that is much larger. You may also want to think about the kinds of food you plan to prepare. If you are planning on creating multi-course meals, you will want a large capacity convection microwave that includes an upper shelf for additional cooking space.
